Chapter Fifteen-Human and Magic Collided

In the cloud still powerful magical energy within me blended with the slight cloud of guilt, climb on the bus to resume our field trip. I mostly feel excitement, but I also feel a slight twinge of anger. Because of Teagen being so bothersome and actually making me a bit worried about her threat to attack, which hopefully won’t happen, I was unable to get closer to Margie. Like, I probably wouldn’t have succeeded today anyway because I’m sure Margie doesn’t remember who I am as it has been so long since we last spoken.

However, I honestly have this slight urge to attack Teagen, but it’s only slight. I’m positive I won’t actually attack Teagen as it’s forbidden by school rules, and I’ve never actually attacked my naughty older bully sister even though I felt like doing so.  Plus, the urge to attack Teagen is even less strong with the excitement of finally seeing Margie, in person. When leaving the rest stop before getting on and asking Lucie if that girl really is Margie, and Lucie responding with a, “yes”, my entire day basically changed, for the better. I’ve had hope that I’d see my childhood friend again since that strange vision earlier in the year, but seeing her in person, for the first time in about seven years, just increases the hope. It increases the hope that I’ll learn more about connections between kindergarten and the human excitement of this year, even with the slight inner embarrassment of me literally thinking that the girl in the vision is Margie for a straight five months or so.

The bus takes off once again and the ride lasts for about four hours more. During this bus ride, all I feel is relaxed. I can’t spot any negative emotions within me anymore other than the slight anger at Teagen. I know that this field trip is going to resume positive, I just know it.

I could tell when the bus arrives at Mythabia by the change from the isolated, empty and narrow dirty road by the same lush green forest as the one near the rest stop that the bus travelled on for a few hours, to this small city with sand colored clay buildings and the streets bustling with magical beings. Only unlike the Core, the majority of these magical beings are wearing gold, with some wearing bright blue. Our bus eventually parks in front of one of these sand colored clay buildings that looks like one of those buildings you’d find in an African country or something, only this one is shinier. When I step off the bus, I immediately feel the warm and dry air of this new realm. Yet, you could spot a few bright and beautiful green plants if you look around.

The building our bus approached is a museum with ancient magical artifacts. I join a small group to explore with. When exploring with them, I actually feel very fascinated, because unlike a human museum, this museum has items like wands and such that actually worked, as opposed to artifacts that don’t do anything. I happily admire those ancient wands, scepters and stones protected by visible rose colored force fields.

After we explore the museum, we eat a quick dinner in another similar looking building as the museum. Its interior looked like a tiny cafeteria with counter service windows to grab food at. When exiting the building with the group after eating, I notice the golden sun setting halfway below horizon and that the temperature has decreased to an average human realm April daytime temperature. As we stare at the slightly violet and strong gold sun set, a taller than average fairy (though I noticed many fairies are usually shorter than average human height) magically appears in front of the sun we’re admiring in a shower of golden fairy dust, similar to how many of the teachers enter the classrooms. Just like many of the other Mythabia locals I’ve seen, the fairy is tan, and she is a pretty dark shade of tan. Her straight, light brown hair that’s about my hair color shimmers just like her skin. She wears a thin and tight, but long and beautiful golden sparkling dress and pale yellow fluttering wings.

As soon as our tour guide appears, she leads us in the street downward away from the small crowds to an underground cavern. I like to compare this cavern to another museum, only the cavern obviously has orangish colored stone walls as opposed to the shiny and smooth walls. And the magical items, though fewer, appear to be much more interesting than the ones at the museum. My personal favorite object just has to be this silver genie lamp with the tiny rainbow colored rhinestone sticker sized jewels surrounding the edges of the lid. This lamp was actually sort of isolated from those other objects, and it was on a round, miniature table made out of the same stone the cave is made out of. It was pretty deep in the cavern too. It was pretty close to the end of our path.

It’s not just that this lamp looks very pretty, but it’s the story behind it which the tour guide told us was interesting. Just as I guessed, the lamp used to grant three wishes to the finder. The lamp was last used by a mischievous young fairy from Mythabia around three hundred to four hundred years ago. Her third wish was a dark one; it was for chaos all across the magical worlds. I think the reason why she made this insane wish is for fun, but the results were actually dead serious. The wish transported the fairy to a garden in the human realm with her wings on, and with a glow that would make her stand out amongst humans. The fairy was noticed by a curious young girl that asked her questions about everything related to magic, and the fairy, hyped about her wish coming true, cheerfully answered them. After the conversation, the girl ran to tell her father about the fairy. Her father noticed the fairy too, and in shock and excitement, he immediately ran into the streets telling others about the fairy. A huge crowd of people rushed to where the fairy was, but she ended up fleeing in fear of the father’s sudden shock.

When dusk hit, a giant crowd of humans, desperate to see the fairy, rushed to the garden, some holding torches and pitchforks. The guide explains that it turns out that many of the humans wanted to see the fairy so they could capture her and possibly inspect her for a scientific breakthrough discovery; all reasons were for bragging rights. The humans franticly searched the garden for fairies and for passageways to a magical world, so they can find it before anyone else. Some actually found portals. The humans entered the portals in mobs, waving their flaming torches and screaming as they chased the fairies. When the mob arrived, the residents fled and hid in their homes. That was when Lucia, the only star spirit on Earth and one of the planet’s most powerful magical beings, cast one of the most powerful spells ever casted; she pushed what many called the “National Fairy Hunting Society” out of the realms and even managed to erase the memory of “fairy hunting” from all humans that were involved. Since then, magical beings were extra cautious around humans. Due to the memory mutations caused by Lucia’s spell, among the heightened interest in science at the time, humans began to see fairy stories that were passed on from generation to generation as silly and false. After the serious chaos, Mythabia’s queen at the time hid the lamp in the cavern where it remains today, and it’s force field protected and forbidden for use to prevent another mischievous being from using it.

As the guide recited the story, I pressured my brain to remember it, so I can write it in my journal. It’s too bad I don’t have it with me right now. I’m not sure about what the others think, but I find this story to be very fascinating, probably because it connects to the human world. The story also causes me to be more eager to learn about the connection between magical beings and humans.

The next morning, we begin our day by exploring a museum of our choice. It’s a no brainer for me to choose the Human Connections museum.

The majority of objects and force field protected readable ancient looking scrolls connect to a time period when humans and magical beings interacted more, before the Scientific Revolution caused humans to question magic. This caused magical beings to hide from humans after rumors of threats to be dissected and examined. Other factors that let to the magic and human breakup include Lucia’s spell after the fairy hunt and the destruction of this thing called the Heart of Space. My history of magic teacher doesn’t really like me, so I don’t understand magic history that much. This is why I’m excited to learn more in the museums.

After the small group I’m in slowly looks at more ancient objects and scrolls related to humans in a normal museum walking pace, we reach a section of the museum with more modern items, which is something I was honestly more eager to explore. The first item that captures my attention on my left in this modern section is actually a large tapestry about the size of the wall with the Spirit Prep castle on it. I read the scroll which is in this rose colored force field floating above the ionic column below it. The scroll explains that this school was founded after the scientific revolutions, and it aimed to be a bit more accepting to magical beings with a strong human connection, like me and Lucie, and humans with a strong magical connection, like Malissa and Kylie.

However the inspiration for that idea actually came from Mythabia; it’s local school, Mythblossom Academy, actually knew a lot about humans and was even one of the first since the revolution to accept some human born students due to its complicated connection with a certain human elementary school that would be built in the future. That elementary school is currently open today, and it has a stronger connection to magic than most human schools and was said to have a stronger chance of holding students with a magical connection; similar to how Lucie and I happened to attend the same elementary school. I think I know what this school is.

What excites me after reading this scroll is that the trip itinerary says we’re going to tour Mythblossom Academy at the end of the trip to learn secrets about this school. I hope we find out what the elementary school is and how the heck it’s connected to magic.
