This is a story I wrote with my water talent OC Dewdrop.
“Dewdrop, wake up!” a voice called. It took a while for the water fairy to open her eyes,Silvermist was in her house. “Did you forget what day it was?” she asked smilingbrightly. Dewdrop finally opened her eyes. “It’s the Great Games!”
This woke up Dewdrop. How could she forget? Every fewseasons, Queen Clarion hosts an event called the Great Games. Unlike the PixieHollow Games where two fairies from each talent compete to see which talent isthe best, fairies only compete against those in their own talent. The GreatGames also happens more frequently than the Pixie Hollow Games. The pastseveral times, Dewdrop has been the champion of all the water talent games. Sheseemed to win everything from the leaf boat races to the water skiing; from thewater ball tournament to the seashell scavenger hunt. And now she is running late!
“How late is it?” Dewdrop asked, panicked. “Um…you only missed the Bubble Bounce competition”Silvermist said. “Who won?” Dewdrop was still panicked. “Rani” Silvermist said.
Oh no! Even though Rani didn’t have any wings, she was stillvery good at all the water talent games. However, Dewdrop almost always beather in Bubble Bounce.
“What game is next? Where is it?” Dewdrop asked whilestumbling to find her blue silk water talent jersey. “Seashell Toss” Silvermist said. “Where is it?” “I was going to say by Havendish Stream, the part of thestream by Dewdrop Vale” “I gotta get going!” “Don’t you want breakfast first?”
The game wasn’t that far from Dewdrop’s house so it was onlya short flight, but Dewdrop was not goingto miss another game, even though it was her least favorite of the water talentgames. Seashell Toss involves two teams and each team takes turns tossing waterblindly to the other team’s grid, hoping to hit one of the seashells theyplaced. If enough water droplets get hit on the shell (the number is differentdepending on the size of the shell), the shell sinks. The first team to sinkall the opposing team’s shells wins. Dewdrop was never a huge fan of this gamesince its very luck based, and she missed a chance to effortlessly beat Raniwith her bubble bouncing skills.
Dewdrop finally arrived just as the game was about to start. She ended up on the team with one less member. Rani was on the opposing team.
Once the game began, Dewdrop tossed the water drops on theother team’s grid, hoping to sink their shells. She wanted to try extra hard sothat she’ll beat Rani, but it was difficult since the game was luck based. “You know there isactually a strategy to this game, right?” Silvermist whispered while theopposing team was tossing. “There is?” “Aim for every othersquare, so you can cover the entire grid efficiently” Dewdrop smiled; a surprisingly great plan! “Where are the rest ofyou aiming?” Dewdrop asked. “Since you’re standingnear the right, aim for the right. I’m by the left, so you should aim to theleft”
Dewdrop’s team won that game. She smiled because the othergames were going to be skill based.
The next game was water skiing. Dewdrop beat Rani in that. Then there was the leaf boat race. Rani won. Then the water fairies went to theTearoom for lunch. Dewdrop skipped breakfast, so she was starving. But evenwith the salad with water chestnuts the cooking fairies made, she wasn’tenjoying herself as much as she should be because she lost the leaf boat race. “Dewdrop,” Silvermist said, “It’s not like your representingthe water talents in the Pixie Hollow Games, it’s supposed to be a fun breakfrom changing the seasons! Enjoy it!” “Oh I’m alright” Dewdrop said, hiding how she’s reallyfeeling. “I won two of the games! I can’t let a fairy without wings beat me!”
After lunch, it was time for the next game, which was WaterWeb. Thankfully, in the past Dewdrop won that game more often then Rani. Justas expected, Dewdrop won. Rani even struggled to create the web strands due toher shaky hands. Dewdrop smiled as the drops on Rani’s web splashed one afteranother. “Flitterific! I justneed to win one more game and I’ll be ahead of Rani!”
Next was the seashell scavenger hunt in Palm Tree Cove.Dewdrop thought she had the advantage, since she could fly, while Rani neededBrother Dove. The water fairies were given thirty minutes to find as manyseashells as possible.
Ten minutes went by. Dewdrop has already found fiveseashells. “I’m definitely goingto win this!” Dewdrop thought herself while flying. But just then, BrotherDove swiftly flew by. The breeze from Brother Dove’s wings took Dewdrop off herflight pattern, knocking her into the sand. “Can you believe it?” Dewdrop said out loud. “What’s wrong?” Silvermist calmly asked. “Rani sabotaged me!” Dewdrop said. “What?” Silvermist asked. “Rani knew that it was harder for her to collect the shellsthan the fairies that could fly. So she used Brother Dove to throw my offbalance!” Dewdrop looked at her bag of shells; three of them fell outof the bag leaving only two left. Her glow grew a bright reddish orange. Silvermist did not share Dewdrop’s anger. Instead, shegiggled. “Rani would never do that!In fact, she has always been good at this game, even though she doesn’t havewings!” “How many shells does she have?” Dewdrop asked beforeSilvermist can finish speaking. “I don’t know. I wasn’t keeping track like you have”Silvermist said. “How many do you have?” Dewdrop asked, again, very quickly. “I have eight” Silvermist said. “Eight!” Dewdropthought, “I can’t finish this with just twoshells! I gotta fly!”
By the end of the game Dewdrop managed to get twenty shells. But Rani beat her by just four more shells. Her glow grew bright orange againjust as the results were announced. With Dewdrop having three wins and Ranialso having three, she had to win the water ball tournament in order to havethe most wins, which everyone was expecting her to have.
At the end of the tournament, it was down to Dewdrop andRani. If Rani missed the target, Dewdrop would win. If she hit, she would win.Just as Rani was aiming, Dewdrop whispered to her, “This is huge! If you miss, you don’t win. If you hit, you do win!” “You aren’t gonna psyche me out” Rani said while aiming,“I’m really good at this game” Dewdrop stopped the whispering, for just a second. But whileaiming, she suddenly yelled, “THROW IT ALREADY!” very quickly. Rani missed andDewdrop’s glow flared up, “I win!” “Only because you cheated” Rani said with a few tears in hereyes. “Cheated?” “You psyched me out” “But it wasn’t against the rules” Dewdrop was right. Infact, there are a lack of rules in fairy games. “You played dirty during the seashell scavenger hunt”Dewdrop said. “No I didn’t! Why would you ever think that?” Rani said, with even more tears. Dewdrop thought for a moment; Rani was right. There was noevidence that Rani purposely sabotaged her. Silvermist flew by, “Dewdrop needs some time to calm down”She pulled Dewdrop aside and looked at her with a smile, “Isn’t the purpose ofthe Great Games to have fun? There is no prize for winning the most games. Infact, no one even keeps track of it!” Dewdrop started to tear up, “So no one cared that I was thebest at the water talent games in the past?” “It’s not that no one cared. Everyone knows you’re a verygood water fairy. It’s just that we are more focused on having fun and taking abreak than who wins” Silvermist said. Dewdrop wiped away her tears with the leaf handkerchief inher pocket. “Besides, you had your time as the Great Games champion, nowits Rani’s turn! Isn’t Rani your friend?” “You’re right” Dewdrop said, “I need to apologize to her.And maybe we can celebrate the end of the Great Games with some treats fromDulcie’s!”
