Lagoona: Wow, that's awesome that you got to see comments from the author of The Diabolic! I'm quite jealous!

Are you reading any books right now? I'm current ...
It was very cool!

Ooh, I looked up the blurb for The Naming and it looks wonderful. The names seem actually beautiful and appropriately mysterious without being weird (which I think is a challenge for some fantasy authors). Right now I'm in the middle of The Toymaker's Apprentice (mice and humans in magical Europe) and The Evil Wizard Smallbone (which has more motorcycles and rough fishing towns than I'm used to in fantasy, but there's a young boy learning magic, so I'm still down).

Lagoona: Yup, it's an awesome class! The age range for the books we're writing is 5-9, I believe. And I loved The Diabolic! It was a really interesting concept ...
5-9 is a fun age range.

Yes! A friend lent me her special copy of The Diabolic that had author comments on sticky notes throughout (super cool). One of them said, "There's a detail on this page that will be really important for what happens at the end." I scoured the page and didn't see anything unusual . . . of course, that was the point, and the ending was all the more amazing because of the twist.

We get specific prompts for the workshop class: write about something your parents taught you, emulate X poet, write a ballad. The club is definitely a "share whatever you've written" deal. I like both the structure of the first and the freedom of the second!

Lagoona: I like writing fiction! Creating my own stories has always been a passion of mine. In my creative writing class we're about to start writing our own c ...
Yes, storytelling is a great skill to have. You're in a creative writing class!? Focusing on children's books?? Amazing. What's the age range for that? Middle school? Elementary? I have a special affection for books targeted towards 11-13 year olds; they shaped a lot of who I am today.
Oooh, I haven't heard of those series before, but now I want to try them. The most recent YA book I read was "The Diabolic" (or maybe just Diabolic) and it was absolutely riveting. You're right: it's hard to write something fresh in YA. But it also has tons of possibility.
I'm taking a poetry workshop class right now, and I'm in a creative writing club, and they're kind of the best things ever.

Lagoona: Wow, thank you so much! I'm always happy to meet someone who has the same interests as I do. <3 And I think your page looks wonderful too!
So what do you like to write? I enjoy writing poetry and realistic fiction the best, but my favorite genres to read are . . . pretty much all of them. Fantasy, school stories, and creative nonfiction are probably my favorite, though.
