Coloring pets?

Custom coloring pets doesn't seem to work. Does anyone else have this problem?

Saffron tried to colour her Butterfly Friend purple...

But Spinel the Butterfly wanted to remain as he was.

I guess this is what happens if you try to recolour your Animal Friend nowadays, since it seems patched.
