Spirit Prep Chapter Two

Chapter Two-A Shifted Life

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 I wake up thinking back to Sienna’s visit. Yep, I’m positive that was a dream alright; even though it feels like it really happened, it’s just too unrealistic and strange. It’s honestly kind of disappointing that it’s just a dream because I was actually really looking forward to going to Spirit Prep.

When I travel downstairs to get my breakfast, both of my parents are seen standing in front of the kitchen door together holding suitcases.

Mom smiles at me brightly, “Are you ready to go to your boarding school?” she asks in an enthusiastic tone.

WHAT? I’m going to a BOARDING SCHOOL? My parents specifically helped me prepare for 8th grade at the regular middle school! If it was Spirit Prep, I would actually be excited, but I’m not going to put my hopes up because I’m pretty sure this school doesn’t actually exist.

Mom noticed my shocked expression and leans to my ear and whispers, “Did the pixie come last night?”

Okay, I’m so panicked; they know about my dream!

“Well better hurry and help pack,” Dad tells me, “your transportation will arrive at exactly 9:30!”

That’s EXACTLY what Sienna said! I ponder back to when she came; it actually seemed real!

I just wish my siblings were allowed to know the mystical truth because my parents told me I was simply going to some special boarding school or something, and Missy knows about it and teased me because apparently the school they talked about is “nerdy” or whatever.

Well, I don’t care what Missy says now because I won’t have to deal with Missy for a whole school year! I wait outside with my luggage sitting my toes internally dancing in excitement. At exactly 9:30 in the morning, some flying purple carriage like conversable without wheels appears from the clouds and lands right in front of my house. The ship was piloted by a silver winged Pegasus and possessed a golden wings design on the back.  The entire car looks magical from first glance as it has this shimmery look kind of.

The person in the pilot seat is this beautiful woman with plump red lips and straight, very near and shiny and silky brunette hair and a dress that possesses a green summary tank top and a thick pink skirt with what looks like watermelon seeds on it. Her silky, bright, transparent fairy wings are pale pink.

“Greetings new student!” the fairy says cheerfully climbing out of the car. “I’m Mrs. Watermelon, and I’m going to take you to the Core where you’ll be living for the next ten months. Now, please allow me to take your luggage”

Mrs. Watermelon points her palm the back of the car and waves it. It shocks me to see that this part revealed a trunk. Am I really supposed to learn that type of magic? It doesn’t even feel like I have magical powers.

“I assume you’re Daisy, an earth spirit” Mrs. Watermelon continues as she used levitation to place my suitcases in the trunk.

I nod before climbing in the car. The seats were soft, purple and they were very comfortable; it feels like a cushioned seat with lots of poufy pillows on it.

Mrs. Watermelon climbs back in, “Are you ready to go?”

“I’m kind of nervous,” I confess, “what if I somehow…fall of the car when it’s in the air or something?”

Mrs Watermelon then giggles, “The car is covered by an invisible protection shield that will protect all the clumsy ones from falling out! Also, just in case you’re still worried, no humans on the ground will see this, so everything will be okay. These fears are common for students from the human world so I’m used to explaining them.”

“Good!” I sigh in relief leaning back in the couchlike seat.

“Let’s go!” exclaims Mrs. Watermelon in a cheerful tone. When the Pegasus begins to flap her wings, I look down at my parents waving goodbye as the car flies up to the clouds. My parents and all the trees and houses and roads begin to shrink into the size of a toy as the temperature feels cooler and the air feels moister.

“Do all earth spirits live with humans?” I ask because I’m curious.

“Not all of them. A lot of spirits live in magical realms all over the world. They know that they’re a spirit, and a lot study magic before you. For fairies and spirits who’ve lived in the magical worlds, getting accepted into Spirit Prep is actually a great honor. Ya know, those who run that school are really famous in the magical world”

We land near the local shopping mall. “Are we going here? This place doesn’t look magical at all.”

Mrs. Watermelon takes off her wings and stuffs them in her dark green leaf bag, “Yes, the mall actually possesses a portal to the Core.”

“Do I need to grab my luggage?” I ask.

“Don’t worry; the Pegasus driving will take your luggage to the school.”

We climb out of the car, “Now, there are humans here that can see us so we can’t talk about magic out in the open” she whispers, “I’d appreciate it if you try to blend in”. .

After the Pegasus jumps up and steers the car back up again, Mrs. Watermelon and I both walk in the mall like we’re just going shopping and she leads me in the department store. She leads me to this corner in the store that no one else is in, probably because all there is are a group of empty clothing racks and the clothing store excitement isn’t really that close to this area. Mrs. Watermelon looks around cautiously and grabs my hand walking me toward a blank, beige wall.

I thought we’d press our bodies in the wall as Mrs. Watermelon is leading me so close to it, but instead we walk through it like it’s an open door and end up in this office with shimmering amethyst colored wallpaper and a soft boysenberry carpet. There are some ladies with glitter on their bodies, exotic makeup, and large, transparent silky wings with one of them being behind the counter in front of us. When Mrs. Watermelon talks to the fairy behind the counter, I admire the room to get used to the feeling of being in a magical world and the fact that I literally just walked through a wall.

“Sit in the waiting room.” The fairy tells us to do. We sit in chairs which remind me of a normal waiting room, but they’re slightly more comfortable, but they’re not as comfortable as the car seats though.

About a minute later, a fairy with flawless, wavy brown hair and a long, silky violet dress with large matching wings arrives and leads us through one of the hallways in this office building. The hallway is full of golden, labeled doors. When we reach the very end of the hall, she opens the door labeled, “The Core” revealing a light so strong that I can’t look at the door. After going through the light and shutting my eyes tightly, the light dims to normal lighting and Mrs. Watermelon and I are suddenly in a green, forest area standing in the middle of a large, lavender pavement circle with a giant pentagram on it.

“This is the heart of the Core of All Magic.” Mrs. Watermelon explains. I look around the area and notice a bunch of people around my age or a little bit older. Some are wearing wings and carrying what appears to be wands. A few magically appear in an intense burst of light like I did (something I still need to get used to), while some climb off carriages run by unicorns and Pegasi. Others are simply walking and flying. I try to tell myself that these people are just normal teenagers like me, but I know there’s definitely something different about them.

“I must go.” Mrs. Watermelon says, “A bus will arrive soon take you to Spirit Prep” Mrs Watermelon vanishes in a shower of watermelon pink fairy dust.

I’m unable to fully get used to that scenery when the large, three stories tall, and shimmery purple bus that reminds me of that mall office arrives. The seats feel more comfortable than the ones on Mrs. Watermelon’s car.

I couldn’t feel any motion when the bus moves to the point where I didn’t know exactly when the bus started moving, but I can see that the bus is moving through the windows.

The ride was around twenty five minutes long, although a lot of the ride seemed to be in what was the middle of nowhere. I began the bus ride by sitting in the comfy chair-like seat trying to entertain myself by looking at the scenery, but it was in some dull forest. When I look around the bus to finish my task of getting used to everything, I notice a card game table and candy stand. I would do one of those things, but I don’t know anyone to play cards with, and I don’t have any money to buy candy. Even if I did, it’s likely that I won’t know what any of the candy is.

Once I think I’ve gotten used to this new bus, an older looking fairy with berry colored hair with bangs and beach pink wings approaches me and smiles, “Is it okay if I sit here?”

“Um, sure” I reply shyly scooting in.

The girl smiles brightly, “I’m Nora. You’re new, right”

“How do you know?” I ask.

“Oh, I just guessed, I’ve never seen you around the school”
I nod, “I’m Daisy by the way”

“Where are you from?” Nora asks

“Er…the human world” I nervously respond. I’m honestly worried that people will think I’m crazy because I seem like the only human here.

“Cool!” Nora says surprising me with her reaction.

After an awkward moment of silence, Nora hands me a paper bag full of candy from the stand.

“I’m not hungry” I say.

“You don’t have to eat any of these now,” Nora tells me, “I just thought you’d like to try some of our candy. These are Fortune Suckers, if you eat them; they’re supposed to give you a different blessing, depending on the flavor”

“Thanks” I respond.

I look back at the window and it seems to be sunnier than the dullness of before. The trees become more luscious and greener. I automatically know we’re here when the bus drives through a metallic arch that says Welcome to Spirit Prep.  Beyond the arch is a large stone castle-like building, only it gives you the sense that it was magically built. Maybe it’s because it seems to be more silver than grey. All the students file off the bus and walk toward the school like we do getting off the school bus any other day, although today isn’t normal at all.

“Would you like to walk in with me?” Nora offers.

I nod relieved. Nora grabs me by the arm and we both walk in. Butterflies fill my stomach with nerves as we approach the ancient looking large wooden double doors. I’m not just nervous, but I’m excited too. I’m beyond ready to get a fresh start at a new school with new classmates. All I’m really hoping for in this school year is what most might find boring, but I don’t want anything interesting to happen this year. I just want to be a normal student that blends in and lives what others may call a “boring” life.
