Spirit Prep Chapter One

Hot 3Viewed 584 times2017-11-5 20:28

A lot of people were excited to read my Spirit Prep books. So, here's the first chapter. I decided to post it here as I feel comfortable posting stuff here and I want to share my work.

Chapter One-A Dream or Real Life?

My name is Daisy Green. I’m going into 8th grade next year which I am NOT excited about. School is simply horrible for me; I may get good grades and the teachers like me, but I just don’t really like the other students. Like, I don’t really have any friends. I’m not unpopular or anything, I just never talk to anyone; you see, I’m kind of an introvert unlike everyone I know. I don’t sit with too many people at lunch, and I never talk to the people who I do sit with; well, I don’t want to be mean but they’re kind of annoying. Seriously; all they talk about are popular movies, popular TV shows, popular boys, and gossip popular peers. I don’t want to join the conversation because I’m not into popular things. Also, everyone at my school is really immature. I kind of feel left out because I’d consider myself pretty mature for a middle schooler, which is a thing that makes me different and well, very out of place. I know, it sucks being a mature middle schooler who’s more interested in adult things, (I’m even planning my future and researching colleges) but I’m okay with who I am.

Well, in another way, I’m kind of glad to spend six hours a day at school because I think my home life is WAY worse than my school life. My parents are okay, but they talk about uncomfortable topics at the dinner table like religion, politics and war. They should know that it’s not polite and people don’t like these topics. My siblings are worse; my four year old brother Stevie is the most annoying person in the world. Just think about your annoying little sibling and multiply it by at least a hundred and you’ll understand. Oh, and he also likes to steal my food and drool all over it before he gives it to my mom as her “meal he made” (she obviously never eats it).

I’m going to save the worst person in my life for the last person I’ll mention; it’s my older sister Mississippi! Okay, everyone just calls her Missy, but the important part is that she’s HORRIBLE! She thinks she’s so awesome because she’s the oldest child, only she addresses it in a childlike manner. She never listens to me when I complain, only she is much more stubborn than pretty much anyone I complain to. Missy is in high school right now and she STILL acts like an annoying middle schooler who thinks her silly boyfriend is everything. I don’t like these types of people as I find practical stuff more important than love.

Well, there I am, sitting at the dinner table with my family. I felt puzzled for a second because I think I remember having dinner earlier this evening, and the kitchen appears to be more exotic than I remember.

Mom looks at everyone and smiles, “Missy has an announcement!” she exclaims gleefully.

Missy smiles brightly wearing an expensive dress as well an elegant bun she obviously did work on. It looks like she was dressed for a special occasion or something.

“I have news!” she announces brightly. Then, she suddenly starts to grow until her head brakes the ceiling and she becomes some giant. And then, she reaches her arm back inside the house breaking more of the ceiling, and then she grabs me. Immediately after she picks me up with her palm the size of myself, my eyes begin to feel very strange, so exhausted that they closed when I didn’t want them too. Even when they were open everything was blurry and I noticed nothing but bright blue and sparkles in my eyes.

With my eyes closed, I feel my back on the comfortable and safe mattress. I open my eyes and I’m in my bed, only in front of my nose is a tiny, friendly looking face. “Are you okay?” she asks in a female voice that sounded a bit higher pitched than average.

“AAAAHHHHH!” I scream bouncing back to my headboard, “Am I still in that nightmare?”

“No, I woke you up.” the figure explains, “You’re awake now.”

I examine her as my vision and awakeness improved; seems like a tiny fairy or something a bit smaller than my hand. Her bright blue hair is tied into a bun simpler than the dream version of Missy’s, but still elegant, and she’s wearing a shimmering, midnight blue casual dress with fluttering, transparent, pale blue wings. Butterflies crowed my stomach as I look at her; I thought they only existed in stories.

“I’m Sienna,” the sprite introduces, “I’m a dream pixie. I’ve been sent by Willow, the ruler of the spirits to personally invite you to attend Spirit Prep for the school year”

I don’t take these words seriously as I’m certain I’m still in the dream, even though I feel very awake.

“Don’t worry, people love Spirit Prep and you should be very grateful you’re able to attend.” Explains Sienna as she seems to examine my expression.

“Um, what’s it like?” I ask.

“Well, it’s a magic school for the most talented across the magical portion of our planet. It’s located in the Core of All Magic”

“Why am I going there?” I ask confused, “I’m not magical at all. I mean, I may seem magical because I’m so different, but I’m definitely just a human.”

“Magical beings do have strange, unusual differences in the human realm and according to the records you are in fact a magical being and me, as well as some of the magical leaders sense you have incredible potential, enough to attend Spirit Prep.” Sienna explains.

“How?” I ask still not taking this seriously. “I still don’t understand this.”

Sienna takes a deep breath and clears her throat, “Many magical being in the human realm don’t believe this when they hear about this stuff, but you are actually a spirit, an earth spirit”

“Wait,” I ask feeling panicked about all this, “What’s a spirit?”

Sienna sighs, “Many people think the spirits I talk about are ghosts, but the word spirit is also a general term for people with magical powers that don’t fall into any other magic category such as fairy or mermaid, although, it is common for the older spirits to develop a ghostlike appearance. That’s probably where the name came from.”

“So, I’m an earth spirit?” I clarify.

Sienna nods, “Yes, as an earth spirit, you’re destined to perform magic that involves nature”

“But are you saying that I’m going to a new school?” I question. “I still don’t believe that I’m suddenly getting sent to a different school to learn magic.”

“Yes,” Sienna answers smiling, “and it should be way better than your boring looking human school”

“Well, I’d love to go.” I respond, “I do hate my school.” Okay, even if this was a dream, it’s my favorite.

But then I realize something, “But my parents won’t believe me when I tell them I’m leaving to go to the magic school”

“Your parents know you’re a spirit.” Sienna explains, “I’ve actually visited them personally after you were born to tell them.”

“Why haven’t they told me?” I ask, “And they’re getting me ready to go to my human school specifically. Like, they’ve bought my school supplies and everything.”

“We gave your parents a lengthy talk about keeping all this a secret until your old enough to be trusted.” Sienna explains. “In fact, we even give them an intense force of energy that makes them keep the secret. If too much real magic is brought out to the public, then I’m pretty sure it’ll be chaotic.”

“Wait, if I’m a magical being then how did I end up here? Is it normal?”

“Not the most normal, I’m not exactly sure why you live in the human world, but it’s not important. But I have heard of a few magical beings that lived there.”

I smile at the pixie, “Well, If I’m actually going to this school, when do I leave?”

“A flying ship will take you to the Core in the morning at exactly 9:30,” Sienna explains, “so make sure you pack before then. Don’t pack any extra clothes other than pajamas; we have uniforms”

“I got it.” I say, “Now, can I please go back to sleep?”

“Sure” Sienna answereds with a smile. She waves her arms and vanishes in a shower of bright blue dust the color of her hair. I, on the other hand, set my alarm and fell back asleep with positive dreams this time hoping I’ll wake up to find that the dream is real.
